The Journal of Digital Religion (JDR) invites qualified scholars, researchers, and academic professionals to join its international editorial and peer-review network. JDR welcomes contributors who are committed to strengthening high-quality, ethical, interdisciplinary, and globally engaged scholarship on religion, media, and digital technology.

About the Journal

The Journal of Digital Religion publishes original scholarship on how digital technologies—including social media, mobile applications, artificial intelligence, algorithmic systems, immersive media, and next-generation technologies—reshape religious beliefs, practices, authority, identity, ethics, and public life across multiple faith traditions.

JDR encourages interdisciplinary research connecting religious studies, theology, digital humanities, media and communication studies, sociology, anthropology, psychology, philosophy of technology, law, ethics, computer science, and related fields.

Positions Open

International Editorial Board Members

Scholars who can provide academic direction, support journal visibility, advise on editorial quality, and help build international networks in digital religion and related fields.

Associate Editors / Section Editors

Scholars with strong expertise in specific areas of digital religion who may assist with initial manuscript evaluation, reviewer recommendation, and editorial decision support.

Peer Reviewers

Experts willing to provide constructive, timely, confidential, and ethically responsible evaluations of manuscripts submitted to JDR.

Special Issue / Thematic Section Proposals

Scholars may also propose special issues or thematic sections on emerging questions in digital religion, AI and religion, platform cultures, religious authority, and technology ethics.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Hold a doctoral degree or equivalent scholarly qualification in religious studies, theology, social sciences, humanities, law, media studies, computer science, digital humanities, ethics, or a related field.
  • Have a relevant publication record in digital religion, religion and technology, media and religion, religious studies, ethics, law, digital humanities, or related interdisciplinary fields.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with academic publishing, peer review, research ethics, and scholarly writing standards.
  • Be able to provide fair, constructive, timely, and confidential editorial or peer-review service.
  • Have an active institutional affiliation, ORCID iD, and preferably a public scholarly profile such as Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, Publons/Web of Science Researcher Profile, or institutional profile.
  • For peer reviewers, early-career scholars with strong expertise and relevant publications may also be considered as ad hoc reviewers under editorial supervision.

Expected Contributions

Editors
  • Advise on journal development, scope, quality, and international visibility.
  • Recommend qualified reviewers and contributors.
  • Assist in evaluating manuscripts within their expertise.
  • Support ethical and transparent editorial practice.
  • Promote JDR among relevant academic communities.
Peer Reviewers
  • Review manuscripts according to scholarly, methodological, ethical, and journal-specific criteria.
  • Submit review reports within the agreed timeline.
  • Provide clear comments for authors and confidential comments for editors when needed.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest before accepting review assignments.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of manuscripts and editorial correspondence.

Academic Recognition

  • Names of approved editorial board members may be listed on the journal website.
  • Peer reviewers may receive certificates or formal acknowledgment for completed reviews, subject to journal policy.
  • Outstanding reviewers may be considered for future editorial roles.
  • Editors and reviewers contribute to the development of an international scholarly platform for digital religion studies.

Selection and Appointment

Applications will be reviewed by the editorial team on a rolling basis. Selection will consider academic expertise, publication record, relevance to the journal’s aims and scope, editorial experience, diversity of disciplinary background, geographical representation, and commitment to ethical scholarly publishing.

Appointment as an editor or reviewer does not guarantee manuscript assignment. Review and editorial invitations will be made according to manuscript relevance, expertise, availability, and conflict-of-interest considerations.
