The global environmental crisis, characterized by the exploitation of natural resources, deforestation, environmental pollution, and climate change, highlights the need for an ethical paradigm that integrates religious values with sustainable environmental management practices. This study aims to analyze the historical meaning and dynamic significance of Q.S. Al-An’am [6]: 141 regarding the prohibition of israf through the ma’na-cum-maghza hermeneutical approach and to formulate its relevance as a principle of Islamic ecological ethics. This research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach. The data were collected through the study of literature related to Qur’anic exegesis, ma’na-cum-maghzahermeneutics, and contemporary environmental issues. The analysis was conducted through three stages: exploring the historical meaning of the verse, identifying its primary message within the context of revelation, and developing its significance in relation to contemporary ecological challenges. The findings indicate that the prohibition of wa la tusrifu in Q.S. Al-An’am [6]: 141 is not limited to agricultural management and the fulfillment of social obligations during the revelation period but also contains universal messages concerning balance, responsibility, and sustainability in the utilization of natural resources. The principle of anti-israf can be developed as a foundation for Islamic ecological ethics, encompassing the values of sustainability, ecological justice, and human moral responsibility toward nature. This study demonstrates that the ma’na-cum-maghza approach is capable of providing a contextual understanding of the Qur’an in addressing contemporary environmental challenges.References
