Aims and Scope

Aim

The Journal of Socio-Economic Studies in Muslim Societies aims to advance interdisciplinary research on economic life within Muslim societies by examining how socio-cultural norms, institutional structures, and Islamic values shape economic behavior, systems, and development. The journal promotes theoretically informed and empirically rigorous studies that contribute to global debates on inequality, development, governance, and socio-economic transformation.

Scope

The journal welcomes original research and review articles in the following areas:
- Islamic socio-economic institutions: economic roles of zakat, waqf, Islamic finance, and philanthropy in shaping welfare and redistribution;
- Socio-economic development and inequality: economic growth, poverty, labor, and welfare systems in Muslim societies;
- Religion, culture, and economic behavior: how Islamic values and social norms influence consumption, production, and market practices;
- Law, governance, and economic policy: regulation of economic activities through Islamic law, public policy, and institutional frameworks;
- Digital economy and economic transformation: fintech, platform economy, and digital markets in Muslim societies;
- Gender, family, and economic participation: women’s economic roles, household economies, and labor dynamics;
- Comparative socio-economic systems: cross-country and global comparisons of economic practices in Muslim and non-Muslim contexts.
