Generative AI Policies
The Basmala: Journal of Qur'an and Hadith recognizes that Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and AI-assisted technologies can provide benefits in academic writing and editorial processes. To ensure transparency and uphold academic integrity, any use of GenAI in the preparation, writing, analysis, translation, or editing of a manuscript must be clearly disclosed within the article. Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, argumentation, citations, and ethical integrity of their manuscripts, regardless of AI involvement.
The journal permits the limited use of AI-assisted tools strictly for purposes:
- Assistance with language editing, grammar checking, and translation services.
- Data visualization that neither generates nor manipulates research findings.
These tools must be used under human supervision, with authors carefully reviewing and editing the results, as AI can generate content that appears authoritative but may be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. Authors retain full responsibility and accountability for the content of their work. Under no circumstances should GenAI tools be credited as authors.
The following activities are prohibited:
- Using GenAI to produce scientific content, arguments, literature reviews, data, or data analyses without proper disclosure.
- Fabricated references or citations generated by AI.
- Use of GenAI in peer review, editorial decision-making, or the handling of confidential manuscript materials.
Authors must disclose the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by including a statement at the end of the manuscript upon initial submission. This statement will be included in the published version of the paper and should be placed in a new section before the references. An example of the required format is provided below:
- Title of New Section: Declaration of Generative AI or AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process.
- Statement: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) utilized [NAME OF TOOL/SERVICE] for [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) thoroughly reviewed the content and made all necessary edits, thereby assuming full responsibility for the final version of the published article.
This declaration is not required when using basic tools, such as grammar or spelling checkers and reference managers. If no generative AI or AI-assisted technologies have been employed, no statement is necessary.
Note: The Basmala: Journal of Qur'an and Hadith reserves the right to reject, retract, or request revisions of manuscripts that contain undisclosed or unethical use of GenAI or AI-generated content. This policy may evolve in accordance with international publishing standards and Scopus recommendations.
