Author Guidelines

 

General Author Guidelines

Journal of Religion and Decoloniality, published semiannually (June and December) since 2025, is a peer-reviewed journal and specializes in religion and decoloniality in particular and intersections of religion, spirituality, and decolonial thought in general. The aim is to provide a critical platform for scholars, practitioners, and activists who engage with religious traditions, institutions, and epistemologies through decolonial lenses and present developments through the publication of articles, research reports, and book reviews.

Articles submitted for publication must adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Articles should be original, unpublished, and not under review for possible publication in other journals.
  • Articles submitted should be based on research, whether library, fieldwork, or other types of research.
  • Articles written in English.
  • Articles should be approximately 5,000–10,000 words (including abstract and references or bibliographies). Please use Garamond font size 12 with 1.15 spacing on A4 paper, and set margins to 3 cm on all sides. The abstract and the references must be single-spaced.
  • All submissions must be in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format. Other formats, such as LaTeX files or PDFs, will not be accepted.
  • Articles should include the following sections: 1) title in English; 2) author/s names (without titles), affiliations, and email addresses; 3) abstract in English; 4) keywords in English; 5) introduction; 6) finding and discussion; 7) conclusion; and 8) references.
  • Articles should include the full name of the author(s), a university or professional institution, and a contactable email address.
  • All submissions must include a 150–250-word abstract.
  • Tables or diagrams should be sequentially numbered, with the table or diagram title and number placed above them. Tables should be centered in the column or on the page, with elements single-spaced and headings in bold.
  • Figures should be included in the electronic version of the manuscript in either JPG or PNG format.
  • Foreign language words or phrases should be italicized, such as Arabic-Latin, local languages, and languages other than English.
  • Articles should include a bibliography consisting of primary sources, such as books, manuscripts, interviews, or observations, and updated secondary sources from books or peer-reviewed journals.
  • The bibliographical references must be included in the body notes and the bibliographies, following the guidelines of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition. The bibliographies must be arranged in alphabetical order.
  • For book reviews, all are written in English with a length of approximately 2000-3000 words.  The format of book reviews is book title, author's name, publisher city, publication, year, and ISBN, link address (optional for e-books), and review content.

All submitted papers are subject to the review of the editors, editorial board, and blind reviewers. Submissions that violate our guidelines on formatting or length will be rejected without review.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
