Call for Papers: Journal of Religious Movements Opens Submissions
The Journal of Religious Movements (JRM) is pleased to announce the opening of manuscript submissions for its first issue. As a peer-reviewed and open-access academic journal, JRM is established as an interdisciplinary platform for scholars who examine religious movements as dynamic historical, social, political, cultural, and transnational phenomena.
JRM seeks to create a rigorous scholarly space for research that moves beyond purely doctrinal or descriptive approaches. The journal welcomes studies that explore how religious movements emerge, organize, circulate, transform, negotiate authority, shape identity, engage public life, and interact with broader structures of society, state, media, economy, and global politics.
For its inaugural issue, JRM invites original research articles, review articles, and critical essays from scholars working in religious studies, sociology, anthropology, history, political science, Islamic studies, theology, law, area studies, media studies, and related disciplines. Contributions may address theories and methods in the study of religious movements, historical and contemporary transformations, transnational and diasporic networks, religion and public life, digital religion, identity and ritual, as well as minority, indigenous, new, and alternative religious movements.
The launch of JRM comes at a moment when the study of religious movements is increasingly important for understanding contemporary societies. Across local, national, regional, and global contexts, religious movements continue to shape public debates, moral communities, political imagination, digital circulation, and everyday religious life. JRM aims to become a promising forum for critical, comparative, and empirically grounded scholarship on these developments.
We warmly invite researchers from Indonesia and the international academic community to submit their manuscripts and take part in the development of JRM as a new scholarly home for the study of religious movements.
Submissions are now open.
Authors are encouraged to submit their manuscripts through the JRM online submission system.
